The game between Sheffield United and Brentford, a crucial encounter for promotion was postponed indefinitely due to heavy snow, along with a handful of games from other League features. Thus, the bet I placed at Bwin was voided.
Keith Strout was out to inspect the field and state whether the game was going to take place or not, but after six inches of snow have settles over the ground it was stated that it would be unsafe to have the players out on the field. Forecasters predict daytime temperatures to stay below zero and further heavy snowstorms are expected.
In an official statement Sheffield United’s staff said: “Despite United’s best attempts, Saturday’s League One fixture with Brentford is postponed due to heavy overnight snow in Sheffield. Although we were all looking forward to this big game, we have to respect the decision of the authorities and the safety of supporters and everyone involved. Referee Keith Stroud has been fully involved with the decision, although he was unable to make the scheduled 8.30am pitch inspection due to him being snowed in at his hotel on the outskirts of the city.”
The club is not poised to work with the League and Brentford to set a new feature date for the game as soon as the weather conditions, as well as club’s schedule allow it. We will keep you informed as soon as we get any sort of official confirmation on the date for the game.
Result: Bet voided
