Steven Gerrard’s last Meyerside derby potential win is under doubt after Everton vowed to break the winless run against local rivals by claiming the first three points since 2010. Liverpool’s captain is so foar the best goalscorer these derbies have seen with 10 goals in over 30 games. The bookies also favor the Reds to win and the real question seems to be who will score first.
Tim Howard and Osman are sure to miss the match against Liverpool, McCarty is under doubt while Atsu is helping Ghana win the AFCON 2015. Everton are 12th in Premier League and were specializing in draws prior to losing against West Ham in the FA Cup. The win came last Saturday against Crystal Palace after Lukaku scored the only goal of the match as early as the second minute. The hosts can’t seem to win at Goodison Park in four matches, the latest one dates back to December in the 3-1 win over QPR. Much of the match will be decided if the respective strikers will be in good form, and it is yet unclear whether Sturridge will start or come later on to boost Liverpool’s scoring chances.
The visitors are pushing for another Champions League qualification, which they are confident of achieving. The Reds have had a clean sheet in the last three games away from Anfield and another one has 2.90 odds from Titan Bet. Liverpool had a horrendous start to the season, but they have picked up form recently and are coming into the derby just 5 points behind the last Champions League place. Leiva, Markovic and Lallana are under doubt for the derby and while Kolo Toure is taking part in the AFCON, Henderson could get a starting spot.
The matches between the two teams usually have a lot of goals, like the 4-0 Liverpool win from 2014 or the 3-3 draw from 2013. Liverpool have also scored at least two goals in the last three matches at Goodison Park, which is why over 2.5 goals with 1.85 odds looks like a bet with value. An outright Liverpool win has 2.20 odds, an Everton win 3.30 same odds as a potential draw. Under 5.5 bookings has 1.92 odds and a Lukaku goal 2.95. Sturridge is also the frontrunner in the goalscorer betting market for Liverpool with 2.60 odds while Sterling and Balotelli both have 2.95 odds. We are going to bet 8 units on Liverpool scoring over 1.5 goals with 2.10 odds form Titan Bet.
Schalke 04 open the 20th Bundesliga matchday by hosting Borussia M’Gladbach in a direct battle for the third place. The first match of the season ended with a serious setback for the Royal Blues as they fell to an unexpected 1-4 defeat. This time around, Schalke look better defensive wise with the new transfer as Nastasic is trying to learn Bundesliga’s ins and outs.
The hosts come from a 1-1 draw against the Bundesliga champions who had to play for the majority of the match with 10 men. Benedikt Höwedes stated his team should have been bolder and convert all the scoring opportunities they had or perhaps they should learn how to convert penalties first. For the match against Gladbach the Royal Blues will have to ply with their third goalkeeper as both Fährmann and Giefer are injured. The 19 year old Wellenreuther will reprise his role as Schalke’s number one after having to replace Giefer in the match against Bayern Munich. Huntelaar’s suspension was reduced to four matches; the remaining two will only come into effect if he picks up another red card in the next year.
Borussia M’Gladbach are currently third in Bundesliga with 33 points, same as Augsburg, but with a better goal difference. They also have a winning streak of four matches and have recently won against Freiburg, but their away record in Bundesliga is far from being perfect or worthy of their position on the table. Gladbach was unable to win an away game in Bundesliga since November of last year, but their recent win against Stuttgart might have proved the visitors have improved something in their form. Stranzl is under doubt after his head injury from the Freiburg match and it is yet unclear who will start alongside Kruse in the forward line.
The visitors have a good track record against Schalke, who have changed their defensive system and are expecting results. The bookmakers don’t seem to make that much of a difference between the two teams and for example 888sport gives Schalke 04 2.55 odds to win and Borussia Mönchengladbach got 2.65 in the same market. Gladbach with a +1 handicap has 1.21 odds, Schalke with a -0,5 one 2.60, over 2.5 goals has 1.96 odds. Schalke to win at least one half has 1.76 odds, Gladbach 1.82 and we’re betting 5 units on both teams to score in the second half with 3.45 odds from 888sport.
Bundesliga gives Borussia Dortmund another chance to start winning, this time against Augsburg, placed fifth in the table. If Dortmund finally find the back of the net they will be moving up several places from being last as they are now to somewhere around the 13th place.
Dortmund come from a goalless draw against Bayer Leverkusen that allowed to finally dream about the first half of the Bundesliga table. The hosts have lost only once in their last four matches at Signal Iduna Park, while Asugsburg are doing bad in away games, losing five out of seven. Dortmund have never lost against Ausburg and in their head to head games they have two draws and five wins, the latest being a 3-2 win from back in August. Bender, Kehl and Durm are most likely to sit this match out while Gundogan is under doubt. Among the good news is the fact that Aubameyang is fit to start which might see Immobile and Kampl benched, while Reus and Mkhitaryan start behind him.
Augsburg has a far more extensive injury list with Ho Hong, Moravek, Hitz, Molders, Reinhardt and Esswein are all out. The visitors were among the only four teams Borussia Dortmund managed to win in the first half of the season and even if they were quickly tipped for relegation prior to the start of the Bundesliga, Augsburg are now battling with the powerhouse names for European places. Feulner is tipped to start as right back and Won Ji might get to play against his former team. Statistics aside, Augsburg are in a stable form as of late, and their recent 3-1 win over Hoffenheim proved true to their intentions.
BVB took their sweet time to rest and now they can’t get any lower in the Bundesliga which is why we are to believe Jurgen Klopp’s pep talk during the winter break worked and they will finally start winning. If they can stop relying on the Yellow Wall as the only support and start converting the scoring chances they always get we might get another 4-0 Dortmund win with 17.00 odds from William Hill. The bookmaker gives 1.44 odds for a Dortmund win, 8.00 for Augsburg and 4.00 for a draw.
We are going to bet 7 units on Borussia Dortmund to win and both teams to score with 3.20 odds, the same market for Augsburg has 9.50 odds. The headline offers for this match are: Marco Reus to score and BVB to win with 2.75 odds and Tobias Werner to score and Augsburg to win with 19.00 odds. Borussia Dortmund with a -1 handicap has 2.20 odds, Augsburg with a +1 handicap has 2.62 odds and over 2.5 goals 1.67 odds with William Hill.
