Real Sociedad travelled to Getafe in what they hoped would have been an easy win that would help them distance themselves from Valencia and reinforce the position for the Champions League play offs. But since surprises in football happen, Getafe managed to snatch a win that moved them up to the 8th place on the table, and provoked the first upset in over 15 matches for Real Sociedad.
Both teams barely managed to set into the game when Real Sociedad scored the opening goal on the fourth minute through Carlos Vela’s header. Getafe scored the equalizer after 10 minutes when Pedro Leon caught a pass from Bergara and drove the ball into the net. The second half began much with the same pace, Sociedad looking for the breakthrough, while Getafe looked more of a waiting for an opportunity kind of team. I guess it worked since the winning goal was scored just six minutes from the start of the second half, when Barrada breezed through Real Sociedad’s defense and fired the shot past Claudio Bravo.
The second goal by Getafe must have worked as a wakeup call for Sociedad, who turned the game into a one way road which led to Getafe’s part of the field, but their efforts didn’t end up with the equalizer they so thoroughly sought after, but the closest they came to score was through Griezmann, although his shot went way over the net.
Now Getafe has their European dreams sparked up again with new intensity, and my hopes of Real Sociedad not slipping up anymore were dashed with this Getafe win. I lost the bet placed on their win with the odds from William Hill.
