With the 2-1 victory that Union Berlin achieved over MSV Duisburg, I won the bet I placed at bet365.
After both FC Erzgebirge Aue and SG Dynamo Dresden lost, Duisburg’s 40-point comfortably leaves them six points clear of the relegation zone, and six behind their hosts in the capital.
After an undeniably entertaining and yet goalless first half, Duisburg’s midfielder Kevin Wolze fired MSV ahead with a fine curled effort sent right into the top corner, from the left side of the box, in the 48th minute. He was admirably assisted by Jurgen Gjasula.
Union’s response came 11 minutes later, when the midfielder Christopher Quiring nodding home at the far post and die Eisernen were finally rewarded for the hard efforts they made in order to achieve a goal. Another key moment of the second-half came in the 81st minute, when skipper Torsten Mattuschka converted from the spot after Duisburg’s defender Branimir Bajic had hauled down his teammate Quiring inside the box.
MSV Duisburg can now focus on their final game of the season, knowing they are assured of their position in Bundesliga 2 for one more year, despite the defeat suffered in front of FC Union Berlin.
