Prediction: Sheffield United – Brentford [March, 23 2013]

Today I’d like to present you an England League One prediction for a change. This time the best odds I could find were presented at Bwin.

On 23.03 (Saturday) Bramall Lane will witness a game with different meanings for two English teams: Sheffield United aims at delivering a heavy blow to Brentford’s hopes of promotion, as well as shake the defeat they suffered at Stevenat, a defeat nobody saw coming.

Brentford on the other hand, wants to secure its second spot even further, and plans to take advantage of the state of confusion Sheffield United finds itself now.

The last 5 head to head games found Bretford with 2 wins, most noticeable in the last encounter with a 2:0 win, and Sheffield won 3 of the games, last win being also a 2:0 during last season’s games. This season Sheffield scored a total of 50 goals in the League, 33 were scored against them and had 17 clean sheets; while Brentford scored 51 goals, 37 against them, and they had 14 clean sheets. As you can see statistics show the teams are more or less at the same level, so it’s no wonder that Brentford is on the second place with two points ahead, and Sheffield bounced back on the third.

Uwe Rosler is expecting a tough game from their rivals for the promotion, and admitted that “Sheffield will try and make up for their defeat.” He is still hoping for a great game, noting that his side wants to show how much have they improved over the course of several months. Brentford won their second game in a row, thanks to a Saunders last minute penalty, to secure the win over Preston.

Sheffield United could regain second place, and start hoping for a qualification again, but only if they play at their best during this weekend’s game. Danny Wilson, Sheffield’s manager said in a recent interview that his side can’t continue lamenting the points they lost, “We’ll look at what happened, why it happened, learn the lesson and move on because that’s what you have to do. One thing is for certain. We can’t play like that again.”

Brentford don’t seem to have any squad problems apart from Scott Barron who had surgery on Saturday to mend a hip joint injury; while Sheffield is not sure Jamie Murphy will be fit to play after his hamstring trauma. One of Sheffield’s best players, Tony McMahon and Kevin McDonald may find their way in the squad as they miraculously avoided the cautions in the previous game.

Hoping Sheffield United learned its lesson from their quite shocking defeat, I would bet 6 units on them at 2.10. The odds were used from Bwin.
